| ABOUT THE PROJECT |
As part of its ongoing initiatives in the state, this study was completed to enable a better understanding of the fiscal environment in West Bengal. The consultancy focused on detailed feasibility analysis, socio-economic political background, fiscal and budgetary trends, and on issues like spending in the social sector, sustainability of the social sector programmes, risk factors involved, institutional arrangements and reporting requirements, etc.

• Reviewed the fiscal status and trends in state finances, specifically in the development sector;
• Analysed the extent of priority associated to social sector expenditure towards poverty reduction;

• Identified the risks perceived to the current/ proposed programmes in view of the current fiscal environment in the state. |
