| ABOUT THE PROJECT |
IPE was commissioned to undertake a Study on Management of Solid Wastes in Indian cities, under the Twelfth Finance Commission. The project looked at identification of Best Practices in India/abroad, exploring applicability/replicability for use of innovative practices, reviewing earlier support strategies issued by the Central Finance Commission, estimating cost of provision of solid waste management, and evaluating financing options for solid waste management. The study also looked at development of a framework for devolution of funds for improved Solid Waste management ensuring convergence/synergy with existing support systems, and feasibility for environmental sustainability especially Waste-to-Energy projects. |

As a part of study, IPE conducted a national level workshop involving all major stakeholders including TFC, concerned Central and State Government Ministries, Departments, International donor agencies, urban local bodies and experts.
The project looked at identification of Best Practices in India/abroad, exploring applicability/replicability for use of innovative practices.
Reviewing earlier support strategies issued by the Central Finance Commission.
Estimating cost of provision of solid waste management, and evaluating financing options for solid waste management. |
